Why Teach?
May 2016
I became a teacher because I have an unwavering love of children and learning. I feel very strongly that although learning a new concept (or expanding on one) can be difficult, it doesn't mean that it cannot also be fun. As a teacher, my goal is to introduce new and creative ideas for classroom growth/learning and to inspire the students I teach as they inspire me.
Although many students consider math to be one of the more challenging subjects; it is my favorite to teach because it is there that I most frequently see their faces light up as the "light bulb" comes on. The sparks in their eyes when they finally understand make me want to teach it again and again and again! One of my other passions is for children's literature and hope that this ignites a love of reading among my students.

Family Life
I grew up throughout my school years (K-12) in the small town of Sultan, Washington. With 5 acres, numerous animals (including horses), and being number 5 of 6 children; boredom was never something I suffered from. I have 2 older sisters, 2 older brothers, and 1 younger brother. When we were young, we didn't get along all the time; however, I feel very fortunate to have an extremely deep and meaningful relationship with each one of them now. I was an "auntie" before I was a "mommy" and pride myself on fulfilling this role to the best of my abilities. I have 8 nieces and 3 nephews! I truly believe my mom is the epitome of patience and I give her credit for teaching me important life skills such as "don't sweat the small stuff" and to "pick-and-choose my battles".
I recently sold my home in Sumner and am leasing a townhome in Renton while looking for a new home (in Seattle or Renton). I have a 9 year old son, Liam, and an amazing fiance, Ivan. I love every second I get to spend with them and we value our time together greatly. Things we enjoy doing together include: reading stories, riding bikes, art projects, watching movies, cooking/baking, singing, playing with Lego's, traveling, dancing, puzzles/games, going to the park, swimming, and laughing a lot!
Other Interests:
I love to take pictures, shop (online or in "real-life"), practice yoga, sing, dance, talk on the phone, paint, spend time with friends/family, plan events/goals, decorate, go to musicals, take care of new moms/babies (I am a certified postpartum doula in my off-time), and travel!
My greatest outside interest is definitely language and cultures/countries other than my own. As a professional nanny (prior to my teaching career), I was able to travel and also work in homes where French, Italian, and Mandarin were used. My fiance is from Bulgaria and last year I started language classes at the Bulgarian School of Seattle. As a teacher, I feel so lucky to have a diverse classroom of students who teach me new things about their culture and languages everyday!
